writing for fun

not quite finished with part 3 of "wwyd if there was an alien invasion?" so i'm writing this to keep up my daily streak of posts.

besides, i figure a proper introduction is in order.

side note, if you want to read "wwyd if there was an alien invasion?", check out this page of contents to see every part released thus far.

hello. i am coal and this is my blog, chunk of coal. this is where i'm pursuing something i always dreamt of doing but never actually acted upon; writing a continuous story part by part, preferably every day. i call them 'serials' for a pretty obvious reason: i intend to consistently write even if it's in a bite-sized format. what luck it is then, that i found Bear just as i was contemplating this possibility.

it's not like writing is an alien activity to me - pun intended. i did creative writing all the time in school. it came to me quite naturally then. because it was a common English class assignment and test and because i used to actually read voraciously. (though most of the stuff i read i look back on is utter trash) this meant i was consistently exercising the skill of creative writing. that all fell to the wayside once i graduated and pursued higher education.

which is a shame, really. i took pride in the fact that i could write and i took that for granted. years after those days i struggled and still struggle to find the right words to put to paper, or document.

i could watch all the tutorials, hear every piece of wisdom from veteran writers in the world till the end of time, but it means nothing if i don't write.

so here i am. i figure a typical blog expressing my thoughts on the world or on various subjects could be good enough, but that market is saturated on Bear. by contrast if i force myself to write by the seat of my pants about somebody's harebrained attempt to fend off aliens on a vacation island maybe people would want to read that. at the end of the day, i want to use this blog to write for the sake of itself, regardless of its objective quality. grind first, learn from mistakes, then improve and repeat - that's the plan.

on a side note, setting up pages on Bear and writing on its straightforward interface has been so much fun actually. and exploring the "most recent" page of the Discovery feed has showed me lots of interesting stuff. so overall, current user experience is at 10/10.

P.S: in terms of future plans

i think once i am finished with the alien invasion serial i will collect and format every part together into a PDF, and make edits to the writing. maybe some people would like that. and i already have an idea for a story after this serial, about a thief named 'hook crook' and his mission to steal something which can't be stolen... conventionally. looking forward to writing it.

thanks for reading. i've been a chunk of coal
